What is the perfect time to drink coffee?

Start the day with a good cup of coffee is undoubtedly one of life’s pleasures. Enjoying espresso in the morning as soon as you wake up or at the bar before starting work is one of the favourite rituals of many Italians: let’s face it, it is our best ally when we need something to give us the right motivation.

There are, however, certain time slots that are particularly suitable for drinking caffeine, at least according to science.

Whether you believe it or not, there is a perfect time to drink coffee. A particular time in the morning when we should drink coffee in order for its benefits to be most effective. According to a recent study conducted by neuroscientist Steven Miller, from the Health Sciences University in Maryland, the best time to drink coffee is between 9:30 and 11:30 am.

The reason behind this answer lies in our famous circadian rhythm.

The circadian rhythm is a kind of internal clock that allows us to be synchronised with natural rhythms, such as the succession of day and night.

According to science, from 8:00 and 9:00 a.m and from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. is the time frame that our body has the highest level of cortisol. Cortisol is a very important hormone that keeps us awake and activates our alert system).

During these times, our body needs more coffee. So if you don’t want to overdo it, it is better to wait an hour or so before drinking a good espresso. This is why the best time is said to be around 9.30 in the morning, another indicated time is in the early afternoon.
